Ichneumon centrator Say, 1825 |
Ichneumon centrator occurs throughout temperate North America. This is one of the larger species of the genus (up to 18 mm). The body is black in both sexes, but females have reddish-brown head and thorax; black and pale yellow antennae; black wings; legs with orange-yellow bands in females. The one known host is the “Woolly Bear” caterpillar, i.e., the larva of Isabella Tiger Moth (Pyrrharctia isabella). Females of I. centrator overwinter under bark of dead trees.
